Debbie Loves Dallas

It is possible that one day Eon McKai will go to the well once too often in making movies that just make you feel uncomfortable about the idea of fucking. It seems to be his mission to make films in which he juxtaposes hot sex scenes with dialogue scenes featuring depressed, antisocial girls. Mercifully, Debbie Loves Dallas is not the film in which he finally destroys the appeal of the slightly crazy girl depressed girl who is trying to work out her issues by having sex with you (or with whoever happens along).

The new Debbie is a small-time porn star working in the Valley doing small-time porn with her friends Bambi, Shauna and Tammy (yes, they're all named after latter-day porn stars; no, you shouldn't read too much into it). The Dallas in the title is a band, the lead singer of which all the girls lust after (his name is Punky). Antics ensue, during which Debbie is visited by the spirit (or essence or something) of the original Debbie, who exhorts he to take on the mantle and use her powers in a manner befitting the heiress of all that Debbieness. Meanwhile, her friends are working their way toward Punky, getting through the roadies and security and whatnot. There is some other stuff involving Charlotte Stokely's dad, played by ancient porn mariner F.J. Lincoln (he plays Mr. Greenfield, an in-joke nod to the original DDD), who is supposed to be signing Dallas to a contract, but pulls out of the deal when he catches Punky pulling out of his daughter.

Whether or not you care about the history of porn or the in-jokes or the irony or the mockery, you'll probably like the sex in Debbie Loves Dallas. Dana DeArmond and delightful Tommy Pistol (usually hilarious but underutilized and unfocused here) kick things off with a back-of-the-van romp, followed by a tryst between delinquent boyfriend James Deen and Dana DeArmond. Pixie Pearl and Dana seduce the other members of the band in a torrid fivesome, Charlotte Stokely and Cassidey use their charms to get past the security guy, and then the original Debbie appears to let Cassidey know about her heritage, drawing Cassidey and Pixie into a three-girl party. Charlotte Stokely finally gets into Punky's pants, but the untimely arrival of daddy cuts the scene short; Debbie, however, arrives in full effect to finish off the fucking.

Whether or not Debbie Loves Dallas will work for you as a porn movie is a complex question, and a lot of depends on what you bring to the table with you when you come to watch it. If it's just a bottle of lube and a love of alt-chicks, you'll be fine -- carry on, citizen, and don't spare the Astroglide. If it's a critical faculty and a desire to appreciate Debbie Loves Dallas in its capacity of satire, well, that's a thornier proposition. As a reviewer, I can't tell you exactly how to go about it, because a lot of your reaction is going to depend on how you feel about Eon McKai and his movies. Eon is playing a shifty and maybe risky game, because he's making fun of porn as entertainment, himself as director and you as viewer in varying proportions, and just what those proportions might be is open to debate. You can walk away from an Eon McKai production feeling uncomfortable, insulted, or hip, depending partly on your interest in porn and partly on who you hung out with in high school. Give it some thought.
